  I have lived at River Vista apartments for 9 months. I think this is a great apartment complex for the price point. Every interaction that I've had with the office staff has been professional. I've had some flooding in my closet a couple of times, and felt the maintenance response time was reasonable. You can start a maintenance request online. I think the office is very communicative about things like when you need to move your car for repaving or when they'll be stopping by for regular exterminator services. The area is quiet, surrounded by woods, and feels safe. VERY convenient to J Sargent Reynolds community college.
  
  A couple of the downsides to living here:
  1) No recycling program. I was very disappointed to learn that upon moving in. I take my recyclables across the street to J Sarge.
  2) Sometimes the garbage dumpsters get very full, although I think they have trash pickup twice a week.
  3) When I first moved in, there were spiders everywhere. I would kill a few a week. I requested exterminator services, but they kept closing my request without sending anyone or addressing my issue. Finally I bought some peppermint oil which is supposed to keep them away? I dunno if it worked. Finally they came for their regularly scheduled extermination spraying. Between that and the weather getting colder, I rarely see a spider anymore. (I have never seen a cockroach or ants in my apartment though).
  4) There is no notification process for when packages are received at the office, and the delivery person doesn't always leave a note. I appreciate that the rental office will receive your package for you (rather than the delivery person taking the package back to the facility), but it would be nice if they could send you an email or something. If I haven't gotten a package I was expecting, I just stop by the office.
  5) I don't think the walls are too thin, but the floor/ceiling definitely is. I live on the first floor and can hear my upstairs neighbor walking around and doing things around the house all the time. My advice is just to get to know your neighbors, and if it's really a problem for you, talk to them about it.
